The BVB squad planning for the new season has started. The club supposedly took a look at a international.

According to a report by the TV station Sky, Borussia Dortmund is interested in Robin Koch. The central defender of Eintracht Frankfurt is a candidate for a change in summer, it is said. There have already been contact between Koch and Dortmund, and further discussions are planned.

According to Sky, the 28-year-old has an exit clause in his contract, which could make a change for 18 to 20 million euros. Koch has been under contract in Frankfurt since 2023, is a regular at the Hesse and ran several times this season with the captain’s armband. His leadership qualities and its game structure are highly valued at Eintracht. Koch’s contract is still valid until 2027.

A possible advantage of Frankfurt in the fight for the central defender: According to the current status, Eintracht (third place, 52 points) does not play in the Champions League, Dortmund (seventh, 45 points) next year. In addition, Koch, as a regular of Eintracht under Julian Nagelsmann, fought for a permanent place in the national team, was even part of the squad for the European Home Championship last year.

In Dortmund, he could risk this place, but at the same time also take a bigger step again and possibly also gain in terms of salary. The BVB would also need the defense center. In addition to regular defenders Nico Schlotterbeck, neither Niklas Süle nor Waldemar Anton were able to recommend. A crucial factor in squad planning will also be whether coach Niko Kovač is also on the bench in Dortmund beyond the summer.
