The future of Florian Wirtz and Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen is uncertain. Club boss Fernando Carro chooses clear words in both cases – and also attacks FC Bayern.
At the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director Fernando Carro commented on the future of Florian Wirtz – and sharply criticized FC Bayern.
Carro emphasized in terms of 21-year-old international: “I expect that he stays.” There is no offer from FC Bayern. Carro accused the club from Munich a “show”: “They tell so much, actually that doesn’t matter.” Wirtz is still under contract with the factory club until 2027.
However, Carro announced a “smaller to medium upheaval” in the squad for the summer. The Rhinelanders are currently eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich and have to come to terms with a title.
Carro also found clear words in the Xabi Alonso personnel – and demanded a decision soon. The coaching question is of central importance for a club, said the 60-year-old and explained that Alonso was already planning the coming season-including squad design and transfers. Therefore, clarity is needed promptly. “Xabi knows that,” says Carro.
In this context, however, the manager also emphasized that he was “sure that we will have clarity in the next two or three or four weeks. It is currently open whether Alonso will continue his way to Leverkusen. The Spaniard will continue to be associated with a switch to Real Madrid.
