For the time being no consequences

Second division Schalke 04, according to the critical statements of coach Kees van Wonderen, initially did not draw any personnel consequences. However, the Dutch’s statements were discussed internally, it said in a statement. “The details of the conversations remain internally,” said the club and avoided further details. However, it became clear that the club management did not like the time, place or the way of the statements.
“Basically, we expect that we will discuss all critical points internally. It should and must be clearly and open there. We have to discuss with each other critically. However, such points have no place in public,” said Matthias Tillmann, CEO of FC Schalke 04. As part of the discussions there was also a direct exchange with van Wonderen. Overall, a “different approach from Van Wonderen was desired,” it said.
The 56-year-old went out of one end of his time as a coach at FC Schalke 04 after this season. “I have to enjoy the four games that are still coming now,” he said the “picture” after the 2-2 against Hamburger SV (for the article). Other media such as “WAZ” and “Reviersport” also reported on the statements apart from the press conference.
Nobody in the club spoke to him about a separation. “But for me it is clear that I am no longer here after this season. All the signals for it are there. If we were on the same way, you would exchange ideas better. But that’s not the case,” said van Wonderen. He explained that he heard that those responsible doubted him and complained about the lack of backing. “I can also deal with criticism, but we should stand together here. And if that’s not the case, or you doubt – then you can better go other ways.”
Opinions in the TM community differ. On the one hand, van Wonderen received encouragement. “Finally one who just addresses it out. I think it’s great and he is right. That happens constantly and a step towards transparency would be good for everyone,” writes user Sympartisan. But there was also criticism for the Dutch. “A trainer who gives such an interview without need has completed with the club. He really did not move at Schalke and now turned away and with these words to bring restlessness into the club again testifies to me,” says Forzadynamo.
Van Wonderen only started his coaching position on Schalke in early October and his contract applies until summer 2026. In 22 games, the team got 30 points – as many as Hannover 96. In the eight games before, there were eight points. Most recently, Raúl (Real Madrid Castilla) and Lukas Kwasniok (Paderborn) were traded as successors.
