With Werner Lorant, Munich made it to the Bundesliga in 1860. Now the former coach died on Easter Sunday at the age of 76.
From 1992 to 2001 Werner Lorant Coach from 1860 Munich. He led the club to the Bundesliga. Now the trainer icon at the age of 76 has died on Easter Sunday in the Upper Bavarian Wasserburg. This was confirmed by his sister Erika after work to the “Löwen” fan portal “the Blue”. The club itself also announced on its website shortly afterwards.
1860 Munich wrote: “The lions mourn one of the most successful coaches in their over 125 years of football.” Lorant had taken over the club in the third -class Bayernliga and led it to the German upper house. The former 1860 President Karl-Heinz Wildmoser, who died in 2010, had made him head coach.
It also says: “The entire Löwen family is in deep grief. Werner Lorant was a coaching legend. He has deep traces of the lions. Our sympathy belongs to his family. Quiet in peace.”
Erika after work told the portal “The Blue”: “His children already know. We will go to Upper Bavaria tomorrow to regulate everything.” According to the portal, Lorant was seriously ill. After work on: “Football was his one and everything. When he no longer had football, he was no longer so good. He loved the lions. That was his heart’s club. When he had to go in 2001, that gave him a crack.”
Ex-1860 goalkeeper Michael Hofmann informed the fan portal: “I have to let it sink. I owe a lot to Lorant. Especially on April 18, 1998. He helped me to make my Bundesliga debut. Lorant was sixty.” Ex-captain Bernd Winkler said to “Die Blue”: “This is very sad news. I was still on his birthday last year. He was on the way of improvement.”
After his release in Munich, several stations followed for Lorant abroad. Among other things, he was a coach in Turkey near Fenerbahçe.
