NBA trainer Steve Kerr often stands out with statements outside of sport. Now he read US President Donald Trump the Levites.
The sporting cheers were hardly faded, when Steve Kerr used the stage for a political statement. After the Golden State of Warriors moved into the play-offs of the North American basketball league NBA, the head coach contacted clear words-and with a special piece of clothing.
At the press conference after the 121: 116 success in play-in game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the 59-year-old appeared with a T-shirt from the University of Harvard. “It’s a great day to wear it,” said Kerr. The background to his appearance is the dispute between the US government and the renowned university.
Kerr emphasized how important academic freedom is. It is crucial that educational institutions “can handle their own affairs as they want”. The fact that universities should be prescribed by the government “what they teach and say”, he thinks “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”. In his opinion, however, such requirements are no longer an exception.
Kerr was solidarity with Harvard and praised the dealings with the political situation: “Well done, you can stand up to the Rüpel.” He received the T-shirt from the university’s basketball coach, Tommy Amaker-according to Kerr, a friend of his.
US President Donald Trump had previously announced that it would withdraw Harvard tax advantages. Board had previously frozen in the amount of $ 2.2 billion.
The government accuses the university of a politically and ideologically colored attitude that is also “influenced by terrorists”. The reason for the escalation is Harvard’s refusal to implement certain government claims – for example to choose new students.
