Harm Holman from Roden, Member of Parliament for NSC, regrets the departure of Pieter Omtzigt from national politics. The leader of the coalition party announced tonight to stop immediately.
“With Pieter’s farewell we are losing a very good politician. I wish him and his family all the best,” says Holman.
Omtzigt was in the Lower House for more than 21 years, first for the CDA, later as an independent parliamentarian and since December 2023 as leader of his own party NSC. “The toll has been quite large,” he acknowledges.
Omtzigt has been at home twice with a burnout. Real recovery “just doesn’t work in the hectic pace of current politics in The Hague”. He now chooses to put his family and his health “for the first time”.
Newcomer NSC obtained twenty seats in November 2023 in November 2023. That was just enough for Holman to get to the room. The Drent was in 20th place of the electoral list.
NSC stepped after a difficult formation in a right cabinet with PVV, VVD and BBB. Now that Omtzigt has left, Nicolien van Vroonhoven takes over the group chair.
