On April 16, a new judgment on the right of trans women was made in Great Britain. According to this, only people who were born biologically female should only apply as part of the Equal Opportunities Act. Transmen are thus excluded from the legal definition of the term “woman”. The judgment concerns various areas of life -such as regulations on the quota for women, the use of changing rooms or membership in certain women’s networks and associations.
Rowling shows their support towards the applicants
JK Rowling welcomed the decision in numerous posts to X. For example, she wrote: “It took three extraordinary, stubborn Scottish women with an army in the back to negotiate this case in front of the Supreme Court, and with their victory they protected the rights of women and girls throughout the United Kingdom.”
In another of her posts it said: “The fact that so many British trans activists shout at injustice says.
The Harry Potter author has already shown her support to the “For Woman Scotland” group several times, which had submitted the lawsuit of the judgment.
Repetitive trans -hostile statements
Critics: Inside the new judgment, fears that trans women could now encounter more discrimination without being legally protected against it. According to Amnesty International, the decision is therefore contrary to human rights. There are also numerous voices in pop culture that criticize the current decision. For example, the former Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall shared a post in her Instagram story, which informs about the negative consequences of the judgment.
For years, JK Rowling has been providing violent discussions with its controversial and discriminatory statements about the transgender debate. The 59-year-old repeatedly emphasizes that the biological gender cannot be changed. And warns of possible risks when gender -separated rooms such as toilets or changing rooms are opened for transpersonen.
This attitude brought her a lot of criticism. Opponents: Inside, she accused her of fueling fears and discriminating against trans people. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have already publicly distanced themselves from Rowling, while Rupert Grint, albeit a little more reserved, also critically critically commented.
