Through the “big door” Alexander Straus will leave the Bayern women in the summer. But where is the Norwegian go? That is now clear.
Alexander Straus is moving to the USA Angel City FC from the North American league NWSL. Both the Munich women and the new club of the 49-year-old announced this. The Norwegian, originally running until summer 2026, at FC Bayern will be dissolved at the request of Straus.
In Los Angeles he begins his new task on June 1st. In 2022, the former German national goalkeeper Almuth Schult also played for Angel City.
“My biggest goal was to leave the FC Bayern women’s team in a better position at the end of my time. I think we have achieved this goal in the past three years,” said Straus in the press release. “I always did my best, which has brought challenges in the family area.”
FC Bayern is currently on the master course. With a win on April 27 against SC Freiburg, the team would not have to take the championship on the third last day of the match. In the DFB Cup, the Munich women are also in the final-the opponent is in Cologne Werder Bremen on May 1st.
Sports board member Max Eberl said Straus would “say goodbye to the big goal”. And Bianca Rech, director of women’s football, also looks back on the time together: Straus was “a blank” in 2022. Three titles in three years and the chance of the first double in club history speak for themselves.
In the Champions League, on the other hand, this season was in the quarter -finals – against Olympique Lyon it was clear. Straus came to Munich from the Norwegian Club SK Brann Bergen in 2022 and had extended his contract last year until 2026.
