Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – From the point of view of fan representative Helen Breit, numerous football clubs have learned too little from the Corona crisis.
“I understand it when clubs had problems in the first half of the year, when they had done poorly beforehand and had to find solutions for it,” said the chairwoman of the “Unsere Turn” fan alliance of the German Press Agency, with a view to clubs that state Corona have received assistance. “But I have the impression that many clubs still haven’t understood it even after two years of the pandemic and that almost nothing has changed in the whole system. That’s our criticism.”
From a moral point of view, Breit finds it “very problematic” when clubs from the Bundesliga or Bundesliga 2 seek financial support from the state. Some clubs did this, among other things, to make up for the lack of viewer income. “In this pandemic, after about six months, you knew how it works and that you can’t plan with 100 percent of the ticket income,” said Breit. “Then I would expect, with economically reasonable thinking, that the club would try to prepare for an uncertain situation and compensate for the loss of income itself.”
