Were the trading chains Woolworth and Tedi treated unjustly during the Corona pandemic?

The parent company of the companies and the state of Baden-Württemberg argue about this. In total, BH Holding GmbH demands compensation in the amount of more than 32 million euros. On Tuesday (11:00 a.m.) a decision is expected in the proceedings at the Stuttgart district court.

The Tedi and Woolworth mother sees itself in their ownership by the sometimes several months of business. She wants to get back the loss of profit. In addition, according to the regional court, society sees itself disadvantaged: it argues that pure so-called non-food dealers had to hire the company because of the lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Supermarkets and some other privileged dealers: but could continue to open and sell their entire range without limitation-including non-food articles.

Similar complaints are also available in other federal states. Non-food discounters like Woolworth and Tedi specialize in the trade with goods that cannot be consumed. They conduct household and stationery, home textiles, fashion and decoration, toys and multimedia, leisure and sporting goods.

Does it go to Karlsruhe?

The dispute should not be ended even after the decision. Observer: Inside, assuming that the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe will have to decide in the last instance. In cases of hairdressers and restaurateurs, the BGH had already judged that the lockdowns were lawful.
