After the 2-2 on weekends against FC Bayern, Dortmund’s coach and the club bosses were quite positive. But is that enough for a turn – or even a miracle?

Niko Kovač sends Borussia Dortmund’s professionals with a clear requirement in the Champions League second leg against the overwhelming FC Barcelona. “For me, it is about the fact that we tackle the game so that we want to win it and show in our stadium that we can keep up with Barcelona,” said Kovač after the 2-2 in Munich.

After the 0: 4 in the quarter-final first leg, BVB’s progress against the Catalan top team of coach Hansi Flick appears as a mission impossible. “That would probably be the biggest football miracle in the history of Borussia Dortmund,” said sports guide Lars Ricken in the “Sky” interview with a view of the second game on Tuesday (9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-online). But one is “owe to the fans that we give everything. And the goal must be to win.”

Ricken liked the BVB players’ reaction to the shame of Barcelona. “I think the team felt a bit gripped in honor,” said the ex-professional. The big question is: What does such a football miracle need to catch up with a 0: 4? And did that ever exist?

In order to really spray a last spark of hope, BVB would probably need a quick goal. The stadium would be electrified, the pressure on Barcelona would increase significantly. And although Nico Schlotterbeck lacks the greatest support in the defense, Dortmund has to be compact on the defensive – which could be an almost impossible undertaking among opponents such as Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.

At a look at the recent past, however, it is noticeable that FC Barcelona had been involved three times in a Champions League wonder: and two of them went out bad for the Catalans. In the round of 16 of the 2016/17 season, Barça caught up a 0: 4 against Paris Saint-Germain and sensationally won the second leg 6-1.

In contrast, the club, trained by Hansi Flick, had to cope with Liverpool (3: 0/0: 4) in the semi -finals both in the 2017/18 season against AS Rome (4: 1/0: 3) in the quarterfinals in the 2017/18.

This is why Flick does not allow his team to pay negligence on Tuesday evening. “It is extremely important to show a team like Dortmund from the start to show what strength you have,” said the former national coach.

He was “happy” about the preliminary result, emphasized Flick on Monday during his press conference, because he knew “that it will be difficult here, and so we also stop the team. Our idea of how we want to play football is always to deliver the best possible performance.”
