FC Bayern is defensive again against Borussia Dortmund and has to be content with a 2-2 draw despite long superiority.
With the tie, the tabel leader also left the chance to increase the lead over the Werkelf after Bayer Leverkusen’s draw. The record champions (69 points) and the still title holder (63) continue to separate six points.
Maximilian Beier put BVB in the lead in the 48th minute. Raphael Guerreiro (65th) and Serge Gnabry (69th) provided the Munich lead with a double strike, but Waldemar Anton (75th) saved the BVB a draw.
BVB coach Niko Kovac was “highly satisfied” in the sports show interview with the draw: “I liked the way we defended it in the first half. How we played football did not fit in the second half.”
Sportschau, 04/12/2025 8:30 p.m.
“We were extremely dominant, had a lot of chances. But it is very difficult for us to make something out of these many chances at the moment”said Bayern sports director Max Eberl in the Sportschau interview. For the upcoming quarter-final secondary at Inter Milan, where the Munich team have to make up for a 1-2 defeat, Eberl is still good hope: “We manage to play out opportunities. We know what we have to do better.”
The clash of the German football powers, marketed as a wide attraction, could not go through the table as a top game from the table. In the past ten years, both teams have always been among the top five of the table before the direct duel, but this season FC Bayern separated a whopping 27 points as the leader and the crisis BVB before the kick -off.
For the Dortmunders, who were recently broken down to European mediocrity after two wins in the League of FC Barcelona, coaches Kovac changed the starting eleven in five positions, including Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Gitten.
Müller in the starting eleven, record player in the classic
At FC Bayern, Thomas Müller stood as a captain in the starting eleven. It was his 29th assignment in the classic between Bayern and BVB, so he climbed into a record player together with Mats Hummels, with Hummels playing for both teams.
The Munich took control from the start. Dortmund with a chain of five first relied on being compact on the defensive. Bayern took 20 minutes to find the first gaps in the Dortmund defense. Michael Olise put on the shot Leroy Sané, BVB keeper Gregor Kobel was quickly down and fended off. Less than 120 seconds later, it became even scarce: after a header from Harry Kane, the ball flipped to the goal post, go cobel and secured the ball exactly on the goal line.
In the first half game only in one direction
The game continued in one direction, the strong Müller kept giving the driver, his cross landed at Olise, whose direct acceptance flew past the corner (26th).
The BVB had long been well served with the 0-0, especially since the Munich team was increasingly careful with their chances: Josip Stanisic was completely free after the flank of Joshua Kimmich, but set the header over the goal from a short distance.
Shortly before the break, the BVB ventured a little out of cover, but was punished for a hair: Olise stole the ball in the middle of the field and had free rail, Kobel prevented the deficit (40th). Just like seconds before the break whistle when he steered the shot from Kane over the crossbar.
Beier goal turns the course of the game upside down
Shortly after the restart, the Dortmunders turned the previous events on their heads: After a clarified corner kick, it was finally quickly over Julian Brandt. Ryerson’s flank sailed on the second post, Min-Jae Kim was completely without orientation, and had Beier headed. The master also slipped through the legs unhappily – the BVB was suddenly at the forefront.
Kim was replaced immediately after his blackout, the maximum penalty for Bavaria’s central defender. The Munich people felt in the wrong film, especially since the Dortmunders were now happily added: Waldemar Anton slipped into a flank when trying to clarify with the long leg, the goblin was already beaten, but the ball dripped to the lower edge of the latte.
The game threatened to slip the Munich fully, the BVB now with new energy: Beier had his second goal on his foot on a counterattack, Stanisic threw himself into the shot and blocked.
Company change A direct hit – Gnabry meets
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany brought the urgently needed new impulses, Serge Gnabry and Alexander Pavlovic came into play after an hour. This paid off only a little later: Gnabry moved dangerously into the penalty area on the left, moved on to Müller, who immediately forwarded the Guerreiro, who was also substituted. The Portuguese sank the ball in the long corner – the Bavarians were back in the game.
Four minutes later, Gnabry levered the Dortmund defense again with the next solo run, Emre Can and Niklas Süle did not get there in time, this time Gnabry himself completed the lead.
Bavaria sloppy – BVB creates compensation
The Bavarians had turned the game, but let the BVB be surprised again: After a corner kick, the Munich missed it several times. Urbig was still able to defuse Serhou Guirassy’s side puller. Anton got the chance in the margin that he should never have received – and the game was actually balanced again.
The Munich team had to repair their own sloppiness again, Kane missed two good opportunities shortly afterwards (77th) to bring the leaders back into the lead.
At the back, the Munich players continued to play with the fire. Substitute Carney Chukwuemeka almost achieved the 3-2 for BVB, Urbig got a hand on the ball and prevented the possible defeat (86.). Pascal Groß left another good chance before the final whistle. On the other hand, Kobel once again showed a strong rescue act against Kimmich’s shot in added time – BVB had absolutely earned the point in the end.
Bavaria in Heidenheim, Dortmund against Gladbach
