In West Brabant, on Thursday, 760 road users went wrong during the European speed marathon, whereby the police in this region also intensively check for speed behaviors and violations.
During the promotion, 8346 passers -by were checked with the radar. Agents from the Traffic team hurled 760 drivers, about one in ten. Three of them had to hand in their driver’s license because they ran more than 50 kilometers per hour harder than is allowed.
The Speedweek runs until Sunday. European police forces check on a large scale for a number of consecutive days for speeding violations.
The checks are aimed at increasing road safety and ultimately reducing the number of road victims. For example, the speed has a major influence on the braking distance of a vehicle, which in turn is an important cause of many collisions.
