Who does not know him: the Allen’s key, the friend of every handyman, the companion on the trip to the perfect Billy shelf cabinet wall. Where an Allen is, there is a solution. Mostly. And maybe the album Hex Key, named after the tool, is something like an Allen key with which our battered souls can be put together again. The band from Austin – Los Angeles – Atlanta, who once got to know her bassist about Tinder, now publishes her third album about the legendary punch icon.
The sound remains punk in that Mamalarky only radically do what they feel like. Psychedelic Wabern Trift on Beatle-Eske strict, dreamy harmonies on scratchy guitars and together results in a dazzling dream pop world.
However, which sometimes also slides into strange nightmarish shallows, but always stays light -footed and somehow lovely, despite demanding song structures, courage to dissonance, too anger, to scratch. In times of extraordinary shitty, perhaps exactly the sound and exactly the band we need, so as not to sink completely into hopelessness.
