Flemish Minister for Housing Melissa Depraetere emphasizes that local authorities must also take their responsibility. “In West Flanders there are still municipalities that lag behind social housing. They will have to make a catch-up movement,” said the minister.
Municipalities that do not make sufficient efforts risk a fine. “We are going to watch stricter. Anyone who does not do his share will receive a sanction. Those fines will go directly to people on a waiting list. I think that is fair.”
