“This is just a phase that goes over”, parents like to talk to themselves when the sprouting in teenage age also takes over the music, clothing or even the manners of the idol in search of identification figures. The phase may come to an end, but it is not always the negative problem period that it is often presented. For decades, young people have chosen books, music and celebrities as mentors for themselves for decade.

The hippies of the 1960s leaned against existing bourgeois ideals, relied on simple and nature-loving clothing and found their role models in several bands. Followers of the punk also resisted society in the mid-1970s and criticized criticism, causing a subculture from London and New York. And for many, these phases of life, these identification options were more than just a short intermezzo, but shaped life sustainably. Political protests were often accompanied by music. Musicians, on the other hand, often not only shaped the opinion, but also the fashion of fans.

The 00s, after the decade full of grunge, techno and the probably most absurd “summer hits” in music history, revived the guitar music. The Strokes moved in New York, the Libertines in London, the White Stripes rumbled on guitar and drums, Arcade Fire came together in Canada. These bands may stand for the last of these youth movements, which primarily wanted to oppose the same mainstream and pondered nostalgically for a time that neither they nor had they had actively witnessed nor the corresponding bands. But suddenly the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Doors were present and interesting again.

The times of self -expression à la David Bowie was no longer trendy. The bands were or pretended to be themselves. The boys from the rehearsal room in the basement, with the scratching guitars and leather jackets drawn by time. At the weddings of the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand & Co., an aesthetics had prevailed that was limited to relatively few clothing: leather jackets, tube jeans, chucks, leather shoes. There was no clear political message behind it, it was the love of (rock) music, a piece of nostalgia that connected the youth. And the main thing is not the same as these people out there on the street, which were so “normal”, the rock music of the 60s and 70s might have long been forgotten and enjoyed radio music.

Chucks from Converse, which at the time already existed as a company as a company, experienced a real high and have still established themselves in everyday outfits-the “Converse All Star” model was once a simple sports shoe.

The Swedish brand Cheap Monday was born in these hype of the 00s and thus adapted the perfect time to bring skin-tight but comfortable jeans to people. From 2004 the models with the skull symbol were not only seen at the local to international favorite band, but also to buy internationally in the shops-on site and online.

Sweden, which had often been awarded by metal bands or ABBA, produced a lot of bands at the time that embodied exactly the look, which was so well received: with jeans and leather jacket from the basement onto the stage. One of these bands was Mando Diao, who had already perfected the necessary snottiness and arrogance with her debut. But they were celebrated like a boy group.

Julian Casablancas, on the other hand, has probably not changed his three to five basic outfits until today. With the strokes everything looked skillful and not wanted, light and reckless. They always stood extremely bored on stage and played songs that let the audience freak out. What has remained to this day – but that could be because the strokes make themselves as rare as possible and hardly play concerts.

At that time, the five New Yorkers, who initially screamed as “the types with the flood pants”, managed to make the tube jeans cool and certainly gave brands like Cheap Monday. An advantage that the Swedish label advanced: When the run started on the narrow jeans models, they were on the spot, while other companies still had to follow suit.

Bands like The Horrors went a few steps on. Leather jacket and jeans were too casual for them, the suit too bourgeois. So while The Hives rely on black and white suits, the five British combined their jackets with skin-regeneration tubes and paint shoes.

But here, too, the color palette was limited-the non-colored black and white underlined not only their cool, elegant style, but also her dark-based music, which was brought to life by Faris Badwan’s voice.

Since music genres and fashion styles of the past decades met and mixed in the 00 years, the variations and interpretations of the guitar band were diverse. The Towers of London, who are already completely forgotten today, tried a creation from punk, indie and Mötley Crüe – more or less successful, but always noticeable.

While the staging as wannabe punks at the Towers of London did not lead to long-term success, for example, The Hives created a hybrid between rock star and gentleman.

Some bands have successfully made the leap into the new decade, some fell by the wayside. What remains in our memory are the music and trends that have integrated into today’s fashion. Not only have the bands of the 00s skillfully proven to look back and from the past, but also the fashion designers.
