TOMal is a small Syrian who wakes up every day to go to school. In this short, however, it represents all the girls and children who seek, despite the difficulties, to regain possession every day of their dreams and their future. Made by Weworld and Factant, the film tells the commitment of the Italian organization alongside children around the world, in the aftermath of the Presentation for the first time in Europe in Brussels of the Childfund Alliance World Index. That is, the index that measures the living conditions of women and children in 157 countries, evaluating the promotion, exercise and violation of their rights.
Weworld’s short on small Syrian “Amal” and children’s living conditions in the world
There Childfund Alliancewhich groups 11 humanitarian organizations, including Weworld, has asked 10 thousand boys and girls of 41 countries: still too many boys and girls in the world claim not to be happy.

The unhappiness of the world’s children according to the Childfund Alliance World Index
According to Childfund Alliance World Index, paradoxically, boys and girls are more unhappy and uncertain about the future in medium-high income countries than the peers of emerging countries.
“There is often talk of them, in Italy and abroad, but you don’t listen to them enough: for this reason we wanted to amplify the voice of boys, girls and teenagers, still strongly under -representative in the international summits”, explains Dina Taddia, CEO of Weworld. The challenge is to break down the barriers that prevent their real inclusion in decision -making processes.
The ranking of countries based on respect for children’s rights, from Sweden to Chad
At the current rhythm, it will take 113 years because women and children are witnesses of the full implementation of the rights evaluated by the Index in all countries. Looking at the general classification, first of the rights of women, boys and girls the countries of northern Europe are confirmed: in the first three places we find Sweden, Ireland and Norway, followed by Switzerland, Australia and Denmark. In the queue of the ranking, African countries such as Mali, Niger, the Central African Republic, with the Chad Fanalino on the tail on 157 countries.
Apart from Afghanistan, mention, almost disappeared from the media chronicles: a country “outside the radar”, where the gap between the condition of men and women remains enormous and the rights of girls and boys are at risk. There is also a worsening for countries such as Lebanon and Palestine, due to the current conflicts.
Italy is 34th
Italy is 34th in the general classification despite Italy both in the upper part of the ranking, which includes countries with “strong implementation of human rights”, things change if you look at the subindnts. Especially for the condition of women, our country is confirmed as a country for men and has worsened from 2015, passing in the “moderate Human Rights implementation” category. While there is an improvement in female health, albeit mild, the other components considered, such as economic opportunities, education and participation in decision -making processes.
Compared to 2015, however, the conditions of girls and boys improve overall, especially thanks to a significant progress of health. Instead, human and economic capital worsen, with the risk of intergenerational and educational poverty, also due to the little targeted investments in education and the large territorial gaps.
