The Public Prosecution Service says that it is standard to start an investigation when someone dies, while the person is under the supervision or care of others. In this case it is about Calidus care institution in Wognum, where people with intellectual disabilities guide guidance.

In addition to the investigation into the death of the resident, there is also a separate investigation of the National Criminal Investigation Department, because the death took place while agents were present. That is standard procedure in these types of situations, to assess whether the police action was lawful.

Whether there is a direct connection between the use of the agents and the death is still being investigated, but according to a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service, is in any case not shot by the police.

Resident died shortly after arrival agents

On Sunday evening, just after six o’clock, employees of care institution Calidus called in the police because of an incident. Shortly after the agents arrived, one of the residents died. What exactly happened is still unclear and is currently being investigated. Both investigations are led by the Public Prosecution Service Noord-Holland.

“Our thoughts go out to the relatives and everyone involved,” a Calidus spokesperson said earlier. The institution also offered support to directly involved employees. “There is also appropriate attention for clients at the location, so that they too get the support they need.”
