Is the bitter: the farewell game for the former Hamburg handball star Pascal Hens has to take place without it. The 45-year-old was seriously injured.
The former Hamburg handball star and world champion Pascal Hens has to watch his own farewell game on Thursday in the Barclays Arena. The 45-year-old suffered a tear of the Achilles tendon.
“Sometimes things are going shit,” said Hens in a video message on Instagram. “In that case very crappy.” Despite warnings, the long-time HSV player wanted to prepare for the event. “Although many said, ‘don’t hurt yourself’, of course it came,” he said. The accident occurred on Monday.
The farewell game scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. still takes place. Hens will now be there as a “third trainer”, as he announced. At the event in the Hamburg Arena, “Team Pommes” compete against “Team Jogi” – named after the nicknames of Hens and his long -time teammate Johannes Bitter.
Because: In addition to Hens, goalkeeper is also bittered in sporting retirement. The 42-year-old only finished his active career last winter. Both handball players shaped the Hamburg handball for years and celebrated great success together. In 2007 they became world champion with the German national team. With HSV Hamburg they won important titles in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
Hens himself ended his career in 2017 and is now getting his late official farewell – albeit no longer actively on the field. “I was very depressed, but we were looking forward,” said Hens. “We have enough legends at the start.”
