Frankfurt (Dow Jones)-The Mercedes-Benz Group sold 529,200 cars and vans in the first quarter of 2025, a decrease of 7 percent compared to the same period last year. At Mercedes Benz Cars, sales of 446,300 cars were 4 percent below the previous year, as the car manufacturer, based in Stuttgart, announced. Regionally, sales show a mixed picture, with a slightly positive development in North America, while sales in Europe and Asia withdraw. The US business remained robust with an increase of 1 percent, the sales in South Korea increased 40 percent, but business in China shrank by 10 percent.
Electric cars were significantly less in demand than a year ago. 40,700 purely battery -electric cars were sold worldwide – a decline of 14 percent in the year. The DAX group referred to the run of the production of the electric Smart Fortwo in Europe. The first models of the new CLA, the first fully electric Mercedes-Benz car, only reach European markets in summer, the sale in the USA and China starts in the second half of the year.
Mercedes-Benz Vans posted a drop in sales by 21 percent to 82,900 vehicles sold in the first three months of the year. While the business with commercial models declined, sales to private users increased by 22 percent. Sales of fully electric vans also rose strongly by 59 percent, with 4,700 Evans sold, the proportion of electric vehicles in the overall sales of Mercedes-Benz Vans doubled to 6 percent within a year.
