A day to remember for Johan Reurink (79) from Schoonebeek. He was appointed as a Member of the Order of Oranje-Nassau this afternoon. The Royal Award was pinned to him by Mayor Eric van Oosterhout of Emmen.
Reurink received the pin in particular for his long -term commitment to Schoonebeek Zoo. He was busy feeding and maintaining the animals. He also rolled up his sleeves in front of the purebred purity of the Schoonebeker race and the Drentse Hoen.
Several organizations could count on the help of Reurink. With the Protestant municipality of Schoonebeek, Reurink joined the garden team and at the De Spiker foundation he was host. He was also involved in the maintenance of De Appelhof, part of the museum farm.
