In the semi-final game of the DFB Cup between Stuttgart and Leipzig, tension came up again. But the ZDF viewers had to pursue it silently.
The second half in the DFB Cup semi-final between VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig was already in full swing when it suddenly became silent-at least on the microphone. At the time of 2: 0 for the Stuttgart, Oliver Schmidt’s comment failed in ZDF.
The time could hardly have been less favorable: in the 62nd minute, Benjamin Šeško scored the 2-1 connection for Leipzig. The spectators saw the goal in the picture, but had to do without the accompaniment by the commentator.
It was not until minutes later Schmidt could be heard again – but the next breakdown was not long in coming. Shortly after the comment was back, the result graphic suddenly disappeared from the picture. However, this only lasted for a few seconds. The cause of the sudden sound failure is not yet known. “We don’t yet know what it was about,” Schmidt later apologized for the breakdown, but humor also found in the situation: “Some people may be happy if the commentator did not penetrate,” he joked.
