Three Brabant bridges will be replaced earlier due to the risk of hairline cracks in the constructions. Minister Madlender (PVV) of Infrastructure and Water Management has announced this to the House of Representatives. The bridges are located on highways near Breda, Geldrop and Oosterhout.

Rijkswaterstaat investigated the state of the bridges, after a bridge in Dresden, Germany, collapsed last year. The cause of the collapse was corrosion of the steel of the bridge, because hydrogen had ended up during the construction. A total of thirteen bridges in the Netherlands are the same way vulnerable, according to the research.

Three of these bridges are located in Brabant:

  • Cadet camp on the A27 near Breda
  • Railway viaduct on the A67 at Geldrop
  • Oosterhoutse Brug on the A27 near Oosterhout

Rijkswaterstaat says to give the bridges priority in the planning for replacement. It must take place within five years. There is currently no safety risk. The bridges will be monitored, with Rijkswaterstaat watching cracks and damage.

According to the minister, the bridges surveyed are safe for traffic. Limiting traffic or the reduction of trucks is therefore not necessary.
