Abuse of heavy fireworks is a major problems for the Netherlands, but also for other countries in Europe. Consider, for example, the explosions that take place in the Netherlands at homes and businesses, which are committed with Cobras, among other things. To tackle the problem at the source, the Netherlands, together with France, focuses on actions in a European context. The aim: sharper measures for production, trading and possession of heavy fireworks from the F4 category and stricter control of the requirements that products with a quality mark must meet.

Today, Minister Van Weel of Justice and Security, together with State Secretary Jansen of Infrastructure and Water Management and the French Minister of the Interior Retaillleau, sent a letter to European Commissioners Brunner and Séjourné in which they once again emphasizing the need for a joint approach and asking for action.

Minister Van Weel:

“We think it is important to continue to draw attention to this subject. This problem does not stop at our national boundaries, we have to tackle this together. That is why we sent a non-paper to the EU committee together with France in February. This led the subject to be on the European agenda and is now being actively picked up by the Polish Presidency and the European Commission. That is why we are now asking the long breath. In the coming period unabated for bets. ”

State Secretary Jansen:

“Heavy fireworks should not come into the hands of people who are not authorized to do so. That this happens causes serious damage and injury.”
