How musicians can refer to politics and the White House, this list of tracks and plates that have focused on the President of the United States.
1. Fiona Apple Versus Trump
Let’s at least bring “him” behind us: Donald Trump. Fiona Apple devoted the song “Tiny Hands” to the orange despot in 2017 with the lines “We Don’t Want Your Tiny Hands / Anywhere Near Our Underpants”. The piece refers to the tiny extremities of the political side of the political side, but above all to its saying: “Grave ’em by the pussy”.
2. Beastie Boys versus Trump
For the first time, Trump can already be found in the Beastie Boys. On their album Paul’s Boutique from 1989 there is the song “Johnny Ryall”, in which Trump, who had become popular at the time, is counteracted by a homeless age ego “Donald Tramp”.
3. The Legendary Ko Versus George W. Bush
George W. Bush also saw himself accompanied by many abdomances. In 2005, for example, the play of Rap-Crew Legendary Ko: “Georg Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” drew long circles. The occasion – in the eyes of many – gave the hesitant reaction of the then president to the Hurricane Katrina, who flooded or devastated large parts of New Orleans.
4. Fat Mike Versus George W. Bush
In 2004, the progressive part of the American punk scene built up in 2004 against a second term of office by George W. Bush. However, the top -class double album Rock Against Bush (Bad Religion, The Offspring, PennyWise, Green Day …) did not change his re -election.
5. Devo versus jimmy carter
First of all, a song about sadomasochistic sex, was “Whip it” (1980) from Devo as a motivation piece for the then struck President Jimmy Carter. At least that’s how Devo-Mastermind Mark Mothersbaugh likes to tell. The effect was also out of the question here: Jimmy Carter lost the choice against Ronald Reagan.
6. Ramones versus Ronald Reagan
One of the most influential songs in Ramones is entitled: “Bonzo goes to Bitburg”. He is a comment on a controversy of 1985. At that time, US President Ronald Reagan gave a speech in the German city of Bitburg. This happened in a cemetery where numerous members of the former Waffen-SS were buried. Bonzo was the chimpanzee, at the side of which the former actor Ronald Reagan had shot silly comedies in the 1950s.
7. Extra golden for Barack Obama
When it comes to US presidents, the abuse songs predominate in large numbers. That can endure democracy-anything else would only be a Putin state (greetings at this point to Sahra Wagenknecht). One of the few positive pieces caught Barack Obama: “Hera Ma Nono” from the American-Kenian Indie-Soul-act Extra Golden, which published the prestigious Label Thrill Jockey.
8. Marilyn Monroe for John F. Kennedy
Okay, not that someone misses it. Here is also: “Happy Birthday, Mister President” sang actress Marilyn Monroe for John F. Kennedy.
9. Bonus: Of Great and Mortal Man
And another attempt at (impossible) completeness: The major project of great and mortal from 2008 bears the subtitle “43 Songs for 43 US Presidencies”. Every former ruler has his own piece here. The idea was initiated by the Californians Christian Kiefer, J. Matthew Gerken and Jefferson Pitcher – as guest voices, they won Alan Sparhawk (Low), Mark Kozelek, Bill Callahan (Smog) and Jamie Stewart (XIU XIU). The impressive work can still be listened to on the Bandcamp page.
