CAES is a young Dutch label that was founded in 2019 and is already known for its slow fashion philosophy. The brand wants to offer quality pieces that can be worn all year round. Their clothing is durable and protects the body like a “cover”.

origins

After Helen de Kluiver had worked as a designer for several years and had to comply with strict specifications and large quantities in production, she decided in autumn 2019 that this way of working no longer suited her and founded CAES. She wanted to show the world how to slow down and be more caring. The brand offers small collections (called “editions”) made up of basics and minimalist pieces, which are not produced seasonally but according to the rhythm of the factories.

Sustainability is not a trend for CAES. The brand’s mission statement goes beyond the production of ecologically sustainable fashion. The entire supply chain is designed to treat workers fairly and minimize the impact on our ecosystem. Each garment is made in Portugal by dedicated family workshops, giving de Kluiver the ability to closely monitor production. Helen de Kluiver works with a model maker who makes everything in 3D to avoid wasting material. As for packaging, the brand uses compostable bags to pack and ship their high-quality and timeless pieces.

Current

Soft pieces like organic cotton bodysuits, neutral-toned dresses and jumpers, and vegan leather pants are available on the brand’s website and now at Net-a-Porter. Thanks to the platform’s global reach, CAES hopes to increase awareness of the label and help other brands with similar approaches.
