NAC Breda has just managed to prevent a home defeat against FC Groningen in the Eredivisie. The team of coach Carl Hoefkens made the 1-1 deep in injury time. Clint Leemans made the equalizer in the 97th minute through a penalty kick and managed to save a point for NAC Breda. The club has not won in the competition for more than two months.
The highlights were scarce in the first half. Sydney van Hooijdonk got a big chance on behalf of NAC after half an hour of playing, but the striker shot from the left after a cross.
‘Bredaase’ opening goal
FC Groningen opened the score shortly after the break. Boy Kemper came with his shoe in the face of Luciano Valente, after which Mats Seuntjens used a penalty against his former club: 0-1.
Tika de Jonge was able to double the lead in the 80th minute, but he saw his shot blocked by Kemper. De Jonge received his second yellow card shortly thereafter and could leave. With a man more, NAC became more dangerous, but that did not lead to goals.
At the last minute
Groningen seemed to stay up, but got a penalty against the VAR intervention deep in injury time after Hands by Jorg Schreuders. Clint Leemans then scored the 1-1 for the Bredaners.
Thanks to the draw, FC Groningen rose to the eighth place with 32 points. NAC Breda is eleventh with 30 points. NAC, which played a match more than Groningen, won a competition match for the last time on January 19.
