Dua Lipa is currently not only ensuring a hit fireworks with the well-known tracks from her on her “Radical Optimism” world tour. On the evening of May 19, the British-Albanian pop singer stopped in Hamburg and had a special musical contribution in her luggage-a cover version of Nena’s classic “99 Balloons”. And not in English, but in German.
The 29-year-old performed the cult song from the eighties with astonishing text security and, according to it, triggered a enthusiasm in the audience. No teleprompter, no stalls – Dua Lipa sang with a clear pronunciation and the right sense of emphasis. “Tonight I will try to sing in German. If you know this song, sings,” she announced in almost accent -free German.
Tour with concept – music as a declaration of love to every city
The fact that she chose “99 balloons” of all people was hardly surprising for fans of the tour. Because Dua Lipa follows a concept: in every city she covered a song by a local artist live as a tribute to the music scene of the respective country.
In Spain, for example, she interpreted two concerts “Héroe” by Enrique Iglesias and “Me Gustas Tú” by Manu Chao, both in Spanish. In Lyon, she delighted on two evenings with “Dernière Danse” by Indila and with daft punks “Get Lucky”.
It does not remain with small chunks or rehearsed phrases. Dua Lipa sings the songs entirely in the respective national language. Fans celebrate not only the diversity of their cover versions, but also the respect that they bring towards the respective countries and cultures. In Germany there are two more concerts in Munich on May 31 and on June 1st, 2025.

Genre boundaries are interested in the singer little in her foreign language performances: whether pop, rock or indie-everything is possible. Songs from AC/DC, Kylie Minogue and Troye Sivan were on the program in Australia, and in New Zealand she chose titles from Lorde and Crowded House.
