900 freshmen celebrate the start of their studies at the TH Lübeck

For the 900 freshmen in the 2022/2023 winter semester, a new phase of life is beginning at TH Lübeck. They all celebrated the commencement of their studies in the fields of applied natural sciences, civil engineering, electrical engineering and computer science or mechanical engineering and economics on September 5th at 10 a.m. in St. Petri Church. They were greeted by Provincial Petra Kallies: “Welcome to St. Petri! You may have been surprised that your greeting takes place in a church. St. Petri is a special place in Lübeck’s church landscape. Very fond of science and the arts. We are also experimenting here. We find good questions more exciting than hasty answers. We like to engage in dialogue with others and look together for what holds the world together at its core. We look forward to you and to you. I wish you a blessed time in Lübeck.”

On behalf of the university, the President Dr. Muriel Helbig the freshmen: “Welcome to our Technical University of Lübeck. Look forward to an exciting time, lots of new insights and friendships at a university where you can surpass yourself personally. Your study time will fly by – take the chance to do a semester abroad, a unique opportunity during your studies.” With its numerous research projects, its sustainable orientation and its openness, the TH Lübeck has an impact on society and the students can make a significant contribution to this, he says Helbig. Examples of this are the commitment to the Ukrainian partner universities, student projects such as Students 4 Sustainability or the university’s participation in city cycling, which started at the beginning of September.

City President Klaus Puschaddel makes it clear how difficult it can be to choose a career path, but is all the more pleased that the students chose the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and the Technical University as a place to study: “Do what you enjoy do what brings you joy, because then you will also be successful on your professional path (…). Celebrate your successes, because our brains love happy endings!”

Lena Möller, first chairwoman of the general student committee, and Adrian Graaf, president of the student parliament, warmly welcomed the new students into their midst and encouraged them not only to pursue their thirst for knowledge, but also to seek cooperation in committee work.

The respective deans of the departments then introduced themselves: Prof. Stephan Klein for the Applied SciencesProf. Stephan Wehrig for that constructionProf. Andreas Schäfer for electrical engineering and computer science and Prof. Tim Voigt on behalf of the mechanical engineering and the economy.
