An 86-year-old driver died in an accident on federal highway 198 in the Uckermark on New Year’s Day.

As a police spokesman in Prenzlau said on Sunday, the man had driven his car against a roadside house around noon.

It is unclear why the senior suddenly left the road with the car on the open road and drove against the former road attendant’s house near Dedelow.

The car caught fire. The body of the driver from Prenzlau could only be recovered after it had been extinguished. The cause of death is also unclear.

The B198 leads from Woldegk in Mecklenburg to Prenzlau.
