800 sunflowers in a special spot: Van Gogh experience garden in Schoonebeek

The most colorful flowers, edible plants and from next year also a number of fruit trees: the lawn opposite the church in Schoonebeek has been transformed into a bio-diverse experience garden. It was built for the upcoming Van-Gogh year, in a special place.

“Do you see those poles around the garden?” asks initiator Bert Finke when he points to four small rusty poles. “Those are the corners of the old church that once stood here.” The church, which was demolished in 1951, can be found in a painting by Vincent van Gogh. “It’s the perfect place for this experience garden,” explains Finke. “If only because it was nothing more than an empty patch of grass.”
