Defense purchases 785 new operational wheel vehicles. These are alternating loading systems, tractors for tractor-trailer combinations and wheel storage vehicles (WTB vehicles). IVECO Defense Vehicles Spa delivers the 3 different types. The first means of transport arrive in 2 years, the last follow in 2029. State Secretary Gijs Tuinman reports today.
The order consists of a total of 588 variety loading systems, 100 tractors and 97 wheel storage vehicles. Defense thereby reinforces operational and logistical support. For example, the organization has sufficient transport capacity and continuation capacity. With the new fleet, Defense also has more options for the transport of heavy equipment, such as the Leopard 2A8 fighting tanks.
In addition, Defense purchases spare parts, special tools, test equipment and documentation. The required equipment pieces are also part of the order. This includes counts and Run flat tyres. With these tires, soldiers can drive on despite a leak in an emergency.
Stake
The majority of the new WTB vehicles can be used under heavy terrain and climatic conditions. They are suitable for displacement over unpaved roads and through the site. There is also a large part of utility for amphibious operations and assignments where no bridging equipment is available.
Furthermore, some of the vehicles are equipped with facilities for ballistic protection and armament for self -protection. These are so suitable for commitment in the highest spectrum of violence. The WTB vehicles are intended for defense deployment.
The current vehicles are at the end of the technical and economic lifespan. They get a second life as a strategic reserve within Defense.
