Minister De Ridder was previously a very cool lover of route controls. Because she thinks they are all too often a revenue model, not so much a means for more road safety.
Now she ordered her administration to thoroughly review the list of 82 planned route controls along regional roads on the basis of two clear criteria: only locations with a high number of injury accidents and where there is a problem of excessive speed (the so-called V85 standard). Result of that exercise: only 10 planned route controls would remain on the schedule.
In addition, the minister announced earlier that the announcement signs of route controls will also be replaced along regional roads. Those signs were removed by the previous authorized minister Lydia Peeters (Open Vld). “Clear communication about enforcement is essential for the trust in policy. Citizens must experience that enforcement is happening fairly, transparent and in a targeted way,” it sounds.
