Captain of the 2nd team
Arminia Bielefeld has presented the seventh new signing for the coming season. Like his six predecessors, Tom Geerkens, captain of Fortuna Düsseldorf’s second team, is coming to Ostwestfalen on a free transfer after being relegated to the third division. How long the 22-year-old midfielder’s contract is valid has not been announced. Geerkens played 17 games in the Regionalliga West last season and three for the Fortuna pros in the 2nd Bundesliga.
“Tom can be used very flexibly in defensive midfield and has proven his qualities in the regional league. It’s great to have him as a guy and a player on our team. I am very pleased that Tom will now help shape Arminia’s path,” said sporting director Michael Mutzel. Geerkens, who had been trained at Alemannia Aachen, among others, said: “Arminia’s path immediately convinced me. I really want to build something up with the new team and get started with my new teammates. We know it won’t be an easy task. But that’s exactly what I’m up for.”
