Especially at the back we have to be stable and first of all make sure that it’s not easy to concede hits… We were much too unfocused, careless and error-prone, especially in our own half. Frankfurt has a squad that is particularly strong when it comes to countermoves, and early ball wins punish them coldly.
We took a 2-1 lead, which is great when you consider that we fell behind so early, also means that the team works really well… but after the lead, I immediately had the feeling that everyone believed “oh well Let’s go on now” and somehow more and more carelessness crept in, which was then also punished very quickly… these carelessnesses sometimes come about when things are going “too well”.
The defeat has to be a lesson to remember… We obviously have more than enough quality as a team to score goals… there’s no need to invite the opponent to score goals… tight at the back and that’s how we get our chances up front. .. with more concentration and security in the game we could have won here today, or at least gotten a point…
Hopefully some people aren’t starting to have doubts, we still have a lot of players in the squad who were relegated… you can quickly wake up memories and the downward spiral begins. You have to play against Bochum with full self-confidence, the certainty that you’ve got what it takes, but don’t show the sloppiness of the day like today. It’s a hugely important game against Bochum where 3 points are actually a must if you don’t want anything to do with relegation… but they’ll sell their skin dearly in front of their own audience.
Frankfurt played us well, it was a nice game to watch… with the deserved winner. But we definitely showed that we belong in league 1 with this squad… Frankfurt is not a windfall, we were definitely on an equal footing.
Luckily we got what we “gave away” today against BVB. That’s why the defeat doesn’t hurt that much… Nevertheless, against Bochum something countable is needed.
