632nd Premier League appearance: Brighton’s Milner draws level with Giggs

Barry is 21 games away

Former England international James Milner took a step closer to his goal of becoming the Premier League’s record player on Tuesday evening. When his club Brighton & Hove Albion played West Ham United, coach Roberto De Zerbi included the 37-year-old midfielder in the starting line-up (to the live ticker) – it was Milner’s 632nd appearance in the English upper house; he has appeared in at least one game every year since 2002.

The former professional from FC Liverpool and Manchester City, among others, drew level with Man United legend Ryan Giggs, who, however, played significantly more minutes in the same number of games. Milner, whose 13th appearance this season, is now 21 games short of record holder Gareth Barry (653), which can no longer be achieved this season. His contract with Brighton runs until the end of the season, but there is the option to extend it by a year.
