60 million for Gakpo? Then Willy and René will take him away themselves

Willy and René van de Kerkhof are disappointed by the elimination of PSV against Rangers. “Luuk de Jong was the only one who seemed to have the will to win. This was a drama,” says Willy in the new Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. After the captain’s resignation, according to the brothers, there was no one to take the lead. Not even star player Cody Gakpo. “It is clearly not ready for the European top yet.”

According to the brothers, things went wrong in the first half. “Rangers had 70 percent possession in the first half,” Willy notes. “That’s not possible, can we? We should have had 70 percent possession of the ball! We stood there and watched it!”

When PSV had to continue without the injured Luuk de Jong after the break, it completely collapsed. “That also depends on the trainers,” says René. “They didn’t have a plan B either. At least I didn’t see it”

“You didn’t see the absolute will to win in anyone.”

René is also disappointed that stupid mistakes are now killing PSV. “That’s how it was in Glasgow and now again.” After that, the leading players at PSV did not get up to turn things around.

“Sangaré, Ramalho, Veerman, Gakpo… they all didn’t give it a go. You didn’t see the absolute will to win in anyone”, Willy notes. “The mentality was missing. Yes, that’s a hard conclusion.”

“Gakpo is just not ready yet.”

And what next? If Cody Gakpo leaves, the brothers wouldn’t really mind. “If we get 60 million for it now, we’ll take it away ourselves,” says René. “In a foam box so that nothing can happen on the way”, Willy adds.

“He’s just not ready yet so I wonder if there are any clubs that will fall for that. Although, in England they have so much money…”

How to proceed with PSV and whether reinforcements are needed and if so who, Willy and René tell in the Willy and René Podcast.
