Borealis, and one of the largest specialists in Europe’s chemistry, built a plastic factory in the Oost-Vlaamse Kallo, tegen de Antwerpse haven. The men – stuk voor stuk van Filipijnse en Bengaalse afkomst – zouden maandelijks een loon geregen raise van amper 650 euro om zes dagen op de zeven te werken.
In a reaction to the Antwerp Gazet and De Tijd laat Borealis weten dat het not gaat om werknemers van Borealis zelf, maar om medewerkers van de aannemer IREM-Ponticelli. Borealis recommends that all its partners ensure “that it is requested in an ethical and conforme manner, so as duidelijk is stated in the Borealis Code of Business Conduct and that all the relevant regulations, with the inclusion of the labor market, are fully valid.”
