55 Ukrainians received in Coevorder district, holiday park and church

The municipality of Coevorden will receive 55 Ukrainian refugees. This takes place at the De Wolfskuylen holiday park near Gees, in the Protestant Church in Sleen and in the Ossehaar district. In the long term, the municipality wants to provide space for 150 to 250 Ukrainians.

The municipality is going to place forty residential units in the Ossehaar district, near the playing field on Jan Frowijnstraat. There is room for a total of 120 refugees.

It is expected that about thirty refugees can be accommodated in the Wolfskuylen; they can go there in a former group accommodation. About 25 Ukrainians can stay in the Slener Church. According to the municipality, the reception is for six months, with an option for another six months. The intention is that the locations will be ready for the refugee reception by mid-April.

Representatives of both the holiday park and the church themselves came up with the offer to receive refugees. According to mayor Renze Bergsma, the offer was seized with both hands. “We are all shocked by the images from Ukraine that reach us every day. Millions of people have already been displaced and there are more and more every day. We want to be generous in our municipality in the reception of refugees and do everything we can. able to provide assistance.”
