In Cascais in Porotgallo a splendid duel between the American and French was staged. Good performance also of the only Italian team, Alked Powered by Vitamin, who closed in fifth place

A single point of difference in ten regattas separated the winner and the second of the Rolex TP52 World Championship, the most important regatta of the 52 Super Series circuit. In the waters of Cascais, in Portugal, the American American Magic Quantum with 42 points was imposed, one more than the French Papretc who essentially did not make it for a tenth place in the eighth regatta. In any case, it was a splendid duel where the American Sled, third in the end, was unable to enter. The 52 Super Series is a circuit that features 13 teams of 10 nations aboard the TP 52, a classic setting racer, almost 16 meters long but very fast for the large sailing surface and the lightness of the hull. Born in the United States (in fact the name means Transpac, a famous oceanic regatta), the class has landed in Europe to give life to a series of regattas since 2012, always at high level thanks to the crews boarded.

fifth the only Italian team

On the four times American Magic Quantum champion, for example, the owner Doug Devos has hired Terry Hutchinson (technical director of the last challenge to America’s Cup) as tactical and has made a direct relationship with the team that aims to recur in the edition of Naples in 2027. A sort of ‘tank’ of young talents that we could see on the AC75 in stars and stripes. Curiosity: on Paprec, the tactician is instead a myth of the ocean sail, the 65 -year -old Breton Loick Peyron, nicknamed Monsieur Multicoque at home, for having won all the classic oceanic and conquered the Jules Verne Trophy in 2012. The only Italian team has well behaved despite being a debutant in the circuit after valid seasons in the Swan 50 and M32 classes: Powered by Vitamin concluded in fifth position with two wins of the day and one third. With two more points he would have ended in the fourth, occupied by the South Africans of Phoenix.

52 Super Series: the ranking

The boat is the ex-azzurra that has dominated the Super Series several times, armed by the pharmaceutical entrepreneur Andrea Lacorte that the Timona, as the circuit regulation wants. The crew has the New Zealand Cameron Appleton as a tactic, Alberto Bolzan as Trimmer and the Portuguese Alvaro Marinho (four times at the Olympics) in the role of strategist. The results of Cascais also applied for the 52 Super Series: with success, American Magic Quantum strengthened his leadership in the standings with 93 points in front of Sled compatriots and Papretc French. Quarta is Alkedo with 129.5 points: a detachment difficult to fill, considering that at the end of the circuit two stages are missing, that of Puerto Portals (18-23 August) and that of Porto Cervo, from 22 to 27 September, in the framework of the Sailing Week.
