50Plus wants to enter the House of Representatives again with Ellen Verkoelen at the helm

50Plus wants the House of Representatives again in upcoming elections. That made the party known on Monday. Ellen Verkoelen will be the party leader of the elderly party, if it is up to the board. Verkoelen currently sits in the Provincial Council of South Holland and is 50Plus party chairman in the Rotterdam city council.

50Plus currently has no seats in the Chamber. The party did win a seat in 2021, but list leader Liane den Haan left the party two months after the elections and continued as an independent Member of Parliament. As 50Plus typifies, the reason for her departure was a fierce row within the party. With whom? Including Ellen Verkoelen, who was in third place on the list of candidates. According to Verkoelen and the party board, Den Haan did not adhere to the election programme.

Now the 66-year-old Cooling 50Plus has to go back into national politics. Cool down writes on X, formerly Twitter, that she is “very honored” to have been nominated as party leader: “The Netherlands deserves a strong elderly party that safeguards the interests of the elderly. In the House of Representatives, I will be just as committed to senior citizens as I am already doing locally and regionally.”
