British police have arrested a 49-year-old woman for the horrific murder of a five-year-old boy in Coventry. The suspect is not the child’s mother, but the next of kin do know her. The victim’s mother was apparently also at the crime scene. Neighbors heard her yelling in panic: “My child, my child, call the police, call the police!”

West Midlands Police call the facts “shocking”. It is striking that the police also calls on the population to remove all posts about it on social media and not to share images out of respect for the boy’s family.

The brutal murder took place on Tuesday afternoon. Police were then called to an address in Earlsdon just before 6 p.m. and found the five-year-old victim seriously injured. According to some British media, the child was “grabbed and stabbed to death”, but it is still unclear exactly what happened.

Officers immediately gave the boy first aid until the air ambulance arrived on the scene. Rescuers then tried to resuscitate the child, but it soon became clear that the boy could no longer be saved.

A local resident pointed out that it was the second incident in the region in a few weeks. Earlier this month, police raided a flat in Earlsdon where a man had been holed up with an eight-year-old boy for five days.

Police say there is no connection between the two incidents.
