46 fireworks victims had to go to hospital during the turn of the year

In Brabant, 46 fireworks victims fell during the turn of the year and had to go to hospital for treatment. That is more than last year, when there were 37 victims. There are also more than during New Year’s Eve in 2019/2020. During the last year before corona, when fireworks could be legally set off, 38 fireworks victims went to the hospital.

This is evident from figures from the Safety NL knowledge centre. There were a total of 1253 fireworks victims throughout the Netherlands this year.

This only concerns people who have reported to the emergency department. People who went to the GP post are therefore not included in the figures.

It is striking that in the Den Bosch and Oss region there were fewer injuries last year (16) than the year before (23). There were more in the Tilburg and Breda area (18 now, last year 9).

Especially eye injuries
Most of the fireworks victims who reported had eye injuries and were older than 18 years. In general, the seriousness of the injuries to which the fireworks victims had to be helped was not too bad, the hospitals previously told Omroep Brabant.

The hospitals were not only busy with fireworks victims, but also with alcohol poisoning.
