SV Waldhof Mannheim continues to work diligently on the squad for the coming season. With Julian Ulbricht, the third division team presented their fourth new signing on Friday. The 26-year-old comes from SV Meppen with an exit clause. The promoted team has to cope with the departure of the best regional league goalscorer across all seasons.
The Hamburg native, who trained at HSV and then spent a few years in Canada, came to Meppen from St. Pauli II last summer and significantly increased his scoring rate again. While the Kiezkicker reserves scored 31 goals in two and a half years and 79 appearances, Ulbricht shot the SVM into the 3rd league with 27 goals in 33 games. There were also six assists.
“I’m very happy about the opportunity to sign my contract with SV Waldhof Mannheim today. SV Waldhof is a big, traditional club, that really appeals to me. The conversations with those in charge have shown me that I see my sporting future here. I’m particularly looking forward to our home games with our fans, who create a great atmosphere,” Ulbricht explained his move.
Sports director Gerhard Zuber added: “We decided to transfer Julian because, in addition to his impressive quota, he has many of the attributes that we expect from a striker. In his past positions, Julian was always a leader and was able to demonstrate his qualities, especially against the ball. We are firmly convinced that he will also show this in the 3rd league.”
