A blackout by Regensburg keeper Julian Pollersbeck secured SV Waldhof’s first success after six games without a win.
In a third division game with few highlights, SV Waldhof won 1-0 (0-0) in the duel between their table neighbors against Jahn Regensburg. The deciding factor in the game was a serious mistake by Regensburg keeper Julian Pollersbeck on his first appearance this season.
After the 2-0 defeat in Saarbrücken (the sixth game in a row without a win), Waldhof coach Luc Holtz made three changes. Niklas Hoffmann, Oluwaseun Ogbemudia and top scorer Felix Lohkemper, who was released from training and games (he wants to move to SV Sandhausen), were replaced by Sanoussa Ba, Tim Sechelmann and Nolan Muteba N’Tumba. There was a change in personnel among the guests. Julian Pollersbeck started in goal for Felix Gebhardt (not in the squad).
Regensburg initially got into the game a little better and put pressure on the hosts early on. After ten minutes the guests’ first significant offensive action. After a corner, Strauss got a header, but without much pressure it was no problem for Waldhof keeper Nijhuis.
30 minutes of chilled summer football
On the other side, keeper Julian Pollersbeck had to really take action for the first time after 18 minutes. After a half-high cross from Ba, goalgetter Terrence Boyd looked for a shot while turning. No problem for Pollersbeck.
With the best weather, the game between the table neighbors rippled along like a mild summer kick for a long time. Goal scoring opportunities are scarce on both sides. After almost half an hour, Regensburg’s best opportunity came from Eichinger, whose shot was defused by Waldhof keeper Nijhuis. Shortly afterwards, Bierschenk failed because of Pollersbeck in the Regensburg goal. We went into the break with a fair 0-0.

After the change, the hosts found their way back into the game more quickly. The Waldhöfer’s lead after 53 minutes came from the slapstick category. Adrian Fein played a back pass to his keeper in front of his own penalty area, but Julian Pollersbeck rolled the bouncing ball under his right foot. What a bitter moment for the 31-year-old former U21 European champion. First third league appearance this season for Regensburg – and then such a lapse.
As a result, the encounter took place mainly in midfield, so there were only a few offensive actions. In the 79th minute alone, the Waldhof fans had to take another deep breath. Substitute Christian Kühlwetter looked for a shot from 18 meters and his shot hit the left outside post. That’s how it remained with Mannheim’s 1-0 win.
Waldhof climbed to ninth place in the table, Regensburg slipped to 12th place. On the last matchday, SV Waldhof has to play in Ingolstadt (Saturday, May 16th, 1:30 p.m.), Regensburg ends this season at the same time with a home game against Energie Cottbus.
