3rd league: Important home win: Bayreuth distances Meppen

Status: 03/31/2023 8:59 p.m

The SpVgg Bayreuth has left the relegation zone again. With the tailwind from the surprising away win in Dresden, the old town got a deserved 3:0 (1:0) in the important game against bottom team SV Meppen.

Lots of fighting, dangerous counterattacks and team unity – that was the recipe for success for SpVgg Bayreuth, who, thanks to their ninth win of the season, are seven points behind their direct competitor from the north. The outstanding Eroll Zejnullahu (20th, 89th) and Alexander Nollenberger (48th) with his ninth goal of the season scored the goals for Upper Franconia, which improved to 15th place in the table.

Tactics work – Zejnullahu with feeling

The guests from Emsland started properly and initially had more game shares. The “Altstadt”, on the other hand, only switched to counterattacking without the suspended central defender Felix Weber. The tactic worked as early as the 20th minute, when a wonderfully executed counterattack via Nollenberger and Markus Ziereis landed at Zejnullahu, who sensitively tipped the ball past Meppen’s keeper into the goal.

From now on, the home side determined the game in front of 4,617 spectators, were more present and more dangerous. Immediately after the break Nollenberger increased to 2:0 after a nice individual performance. SV Meppen was now visibly knocked out and could no longer react. Bayreuth still had a few chances to make it 3-0. Again Zenjullahu put the lid on this game with will and power (89th).

Without cherry after exit

The second win in a row lets the SpVgg breathe a sigh of relief in the relegation battle. Next week we go to SC Verl – then without captain Benedikt Kirsch, who saw the fifth yellow card.
