3rd league: Halle and Duisburg deliver a wild draw

As of: 03/24/2023 9:04 p.m

Hallesche FC missed the long-awaited home win against MSV Duisburg despite numerous chances. Coach Sreto Ristic’s team continued their unbeaten series with the 2:2 (1:1). The hosts were the more dangerous team for much of the game, but were vulnerable from set pieces. The negative highlight was the excessive red card against Halle’s central defender Sören Reddemann.

Hallesche FC only drew 2-2 (1-1) against MSV Duisburg. The Saalestadt team remained unbeaten in the seventh game under coach Sreto Ristic, but missed their first home win since November.

No change at HFC

After the 1-1 draw at leaders SV Elversberg, Ristic saw no reason to change and brought the identical starting XI. The situation was different for the guests from Duisburg, trained by ex-hall coach Torsten Ziegner: After the wild 3:3 against SC Verl, there were four changes. With Marvin Ajani and Sebastian Mai, two ex-HFC players moved into the starting line-up, and Niclas Stierlin and the now 36-year-old veteran Moritz Stoppelkamp were also new. Joshua Bitter (5th yellow card) and Caspar Jander (yellow-red) were suspended, Marvin Senger and Kolja Pusch were initially on the bench.

Bolyki puts HFC in the lead, Bakalorz equalizes

Both teams went to work at high speed and with their sights open from the start. Halle’s first chance was missed by Tom Zimmerschied with a direct acceptance (3′), on the other side Tunay Deniz blocked a header from Mai with his arm in his own penalty area (7′) – lucky for HFC that referee Michael Bacher didn’t recognize the handball . Then the hosts again: After an intercepted long pass, things went very quickly, Dominik Steczyk passed the ball artistically and Andor Bolyki lobbed the ball over Duisburg goalkeeper Vincent Müller to make it 1-0 (10th).

Andor Bolyki scores to make it 1-0 for HFC.

It was a confident start for HFC, who immediately followed suit: Deniz’s volley after a cross from Omladic went just over the goal (12′). However, Halle was vulnerable when it came to standards: In the 15th minute, the guests headed twice after a corner, and in the 17th minute it was Mai again whose header was blocked by the HFC defense – but this time it was Marvin Bakalorz on the spot and sank the margin from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-1.

High pace, a few chances – then Bolyki gets injured

As a result, both teams could have scored the opening goal. For HFC, Steczyk (19′), Sören Reddemann with a header from a corner (26′) and Zimmerschied missed further opportunities after a nice individual action (36′). Benjamin Girth had the lead for Duisburg (21st). Then a blow to the neck for HFC: Goal scorer Bolyki was injured shortly before the half-time break, coach Ristic was forced to make a change early on and brought on Sebastian Müller (42nd).

Annoying: goalscorer Bolyki has to leave injured.

Again, the HFC leadership does not last long

After the change of sides, nothing changed in the character of the game. HFC kept up the pressure, Deniz tested Vincent Müller with a shot from the edge of the penalty area (54′). Then a cross from Nico Hug landed in a roundabout way at the far post by Sebastian Müller, who headed in to make it 2-1 (58′). But this time the HFC lead didn’t last long either – and again it was a standard that broke the neck of the people of Saalestadt: Ajani scored from a short distance after a corner to make it 2-2 (60th).

The HFC was not discouraged, but the hosts missed great opportunities: Aaron Herzog only hit the post from a distance (72′), Zimmerschied’s shot went wide (73′). Then Duisburg goalkeeper Müller misjudged a cross, but Halle’s striker Müller didn’t hit the ball (77′). Finally, MSV-Müller parried a hug shot (83rd).

Reddemann is held, pushes – and sees red

In the final phase it got really wild: Reddemann was held in the opponent’s penalty area, pushed his opponent away – and saw the red card from referee Bacher (84th). An exaggerated decision that upset Halle in the last few minutes and almost gave Duisburg the opening goal. However, Julian Hettwer failed in the final minute to HFC goalkeeper Felix Gebhardt, which is why it remained 2:2.
