Bavarian derby on Grünwalder Straße: TSV 1860 Munich welcomed FC Ingolstadt for the penultimate game of the season in the 3rd league. The Lions got off to a better start – but after the break the game tipped over for the home team.
The Bavarian duel on the penultimate matchday did not have much sporting relevance. Nevertheless, the game between TSV 1860 Munich and FC Ingolstadt was very exciting. The Lions led at the break, but the Schanzer turned up the heat in the second half and left the Grünwalder Stadium as winners after a 2-1 win.

For both teams it was no longer about anything sporting. 1860 Munich wanted to say goodbye to their fans with a win after a rather disappointing season in which the topic of promotion had to be checked off a few months ago. Markus Kauczinski’s team got off to a correspondingly energetic start. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Samuel Althaus took the Lions lead.
Ingolstadt is turning up the heat
Ingolstadt played on an equal footing – despite the turbulence after the 3:5 home disgrace against relegated Erzgebirge Aue. So the Schanzer and the Schanzer parted ways FCI managing director Dietmar Beiersdorfer. The club has drawn up a four-year plan – with the clear goal of promotion. President Peter Jackwerth made it clear on MagentaTV: “Those were a cruel last 30 minutes against Aue – if we continue like this, we will empty the stadium. We are now starting from scratch and strengthening ourselves at certain points in order to get into the flow better – and to get promoted in four years at the latest.”
After the restart, the guests took command and a nice combination brought Marcel Costly’s equalizer in the 57th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Max Besuschkow scored Ingolstadt’s opening goal.
Cheered on by the fans in the sold-out Grünwald Stadium, the Lions fought for the equalizer – but the ball no longer wanted to go into the Ingolstadt goal.

In addition to Jesper Verlaat, Clemens Lippmann, Thore Jacobsen, Maximilian Wolfram, David Philipp, Raphael Schifferl and Morris Schröter, there was also substitute goalkeeper Miran Qela, whose departure had not yet been officially announced before the game. It got particularly loud in the stadium near Verlaat – the long-time captain burst into tears, and “Once a lion, always a lion – hey, hey” was heard from Giesing’s heights.
