Rot-Weiss Essen conceded a win against Wehen Wiesbaden. RWE missed many chances and conceded the equalizer late on.
Rot-Weiss Essen carelessly gave away three points in the 1:1 (1:0) draw against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Marek Janssen had put Essen in the lead, Fatih Kaya (75th) equalized for Wehen Wiesbaden.
For Essen, which at times almost exploited its chances, there are two points lost in the promotion race and RWE missed out on jumping into the relegation place. With 39 points, Essen is now in fourth place in the table, Wehen Wiesbaden remains seventh.
Weak game in the first half
Both teams started rather nervously, there were a lot of bad passes on both sides in the first quarter of an hour. Both Wehen Wiesbaden and Essen relied heavily on long balls that were easy to intercept – after half an hour the fans hadn’t seen much of an opportunity. In the first properly played attack, Ramien Safi lacked precision when finishing.
Ten minutes before half-time, the “Oh RWE!” that was played when goals were scored rang out. through the stadium on Hafenstrasse: A wide cross found Janssen at the second post, who headed it in at the top left. Despite the deficit, the guests remained very unimaginative. Nothing dangerous came from RWE until the break – so it went into the break in a fairly uneventful game with Essen’s narrow lead.
Essen’s usury of opportunities is punished
The start of the second half was slightly delayed because a hole was found in one of the goal nets. After a successful repair by the armory, RWE was able to get started with a new man. Goalscorer Janssen was replaced by Danny Schmidt due to injury. The hosts had their first chance: Torben Müsel’s attempted shot was blocked. Wehen’s goalkeeper Noah Brdar then prevented Safi from conceding the second goal.
RWE appeared significantly more dangerous in its counterattack chances than Wehen Wiesbaden, who continued to act without any penetration. Müsel narrowly missed after a quick Essen attack. And the next attack via the midfielder also failed to reach its goal when Safi flew past Müsel’s cross (68th). Essen’s misuse of chances took revenge a quarter of an hour before the end when Kaya got the ball in the penalty area and scored from the turn to equalize. Afterwards, both teams couldn’t think of anything else.
