Third win in a row: FC Ingolstadt 04 played with great efficiency on the 8th matchday of the 3rd football league and scored four goals from a few chances against newly promoted Ulm.
FC Ingolstadt didn’t have too many chances in the top game against the newcomers from Ulm, who had been playing strongly so far this season, but Michael Köllner’s team took advantage of them coldly. Benjamin Kanurić (5′), David Kopacz (45′), Jannik Mause (54′) and Julian Kügel (79′) scored for the Schanzer.
Michael Köllner’s team made it clear in the fifth minute that we wanted to get the points here. The Schanzer took advantage of their first chance. The Ulm defense was unable to defuse a throw-in from Malone, which sent the ball into the penalty area. Shortly before the edge of the penalty area, Benjamin Kanurić got to the ball and sank the ball into Christian Ortag’s goal to make it 1-0.
It was the third goal of the season for the Schanzer midfielder. FCI sports director Ivica Grlic praised the 20-year-old goalscorer during the break: “We believe he has a lot of potential. His journey is not over yet.”
FCI defense holds tight
Ulm was unimpressed, took the game and challenged the hosts. But the Swabians lacked penetration. Marius Funk punched away a free kick from Léo Scienza. In addition, the FCI defense was stable and the hosts remained dangerous from set pieces. However, Ryan Malone’s header went wide in the 34th minute. After 45 minutes the Schanzer scored again. David Kopacz scored coldly before the break to make it 2-0. Thomas Wörle’s team was behind at halftime for the first time in the season.
Top scorer Mause celebrates his seventh goal of the season
With his seventh goal of the season, striker Jannik Mause almost put the game at risk in the 54th minute. Ortag had fended off a shot from Felix Keidel. The play equipment fell right at Mause’s feet. The 25-year-old made it 3-0 from seven meters.
What else could Ulm do against it? Wörle brought fresh strength. Substitute Tobias Rühle tested Funk. The guests tried hard, but were too safe in the end. The defense didn’t hold up. Substitute Julian Kügel was able to make the score 4-0.
